First she’s shy… then she’s sweet!

Hi! I’m Nellie — a shy little sweetheart with a big heart just waiting to blossom. I’m the perfect age and size at 3-years-old & 37-pounds. I’m a Border Collie mix, rescued from the terrible conditions of the ESLR “shelter” that was shut down in Ensenada. Life wasn’t always easy for me, but I’ve come a long way! I’m finally learning how good it feels to be safe, loved, and part of a home.

It takes me a little time to warm up, particularly with men, but once I feel safe, my sweet, playful side shines through! I love playing with my furry foster brother — we have the best time with squeaky toys and silly zoomies. Having another confident, playful dog in the home really helps me feel at ease, so I’d love a doggy sibling.

At home, I’m a pretty easy going girlie. I follow my foster mom around, love getting pets, and enjoy lounging around the house. I’m bathroom and crate trained, and I actually like hanging out in my crate when I need some quiet time. I don’t have separation anxiety — I do just fine when my humans are away, as long as you keep the snacks out of my reach (I am a smart cookie, after all!).

Walks are still a work in progress for me. Now that I’m more comfortable, I’ve been feeling a little bolder outside, which means I sometimes bark or lunge at strangers out of fear — especially when they sneak up behind me. My foster family is working on this, but I’ll need a patient, experienced human to help me build my confidence.

If you’re looking for a loyal, gentle companion who just needs a little time and understanding to feel at home, I’m your gal. I’ll thrive with a calm, medium-active family, ideally with a backyard and maybe a doggy friend to show me the ropes. I’ve already come so far — I just need the right person to help me keep growing and glowing!

My adoption fee is $350 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/
