Age: 5 years old
Gender: Male
Breed: Mastiff mix
Weight: 80 lbs
Personality: Chief joined our family just months before Covid shutdown. He was chosen from a litter of 9 Mastiff/Pit puppies. From the beginning Chief has always been a lover, eager to learn and the absolute best companion. He plays well with other dogs, gentle as a mastiff/pit can be around children and even surprised us by befriending a siamese cat this last year. Chief as never had any medical issues and has been a breeze from the medical perspective. Chief turned 5 August 1, 2024.Chief loves to run and play with other dogs, he also seems very tolerant to younger dogs that want to out play him. Most recently Chief was introduced to a family cat, while very curious, he quickly learned that the cat was the alpha. They currently spend hours lounging on patio together in their respective areas. While Chief has little awareness of his size and power he is great with kids. Sometimes just him brushing by a toddler or small child could knock them over, so I would suggest supervision until comfortable.Overall Chief is the best dog I've ever had. He is loved by all, happy, does well at home alone, has never destroyed anything in our home, even as a puppy! Chief recently is showing signs of anxiety since we moved from a house with a yard into a townhouse without a yard last year. His protective side is showing while walking on a leash. While Chief as never bit or had an altercation with another animal, his bark and natural build can be intimidating to others that don't know him.
Education: Bathroom, crate and leash trained.
Favorite Activities: Chief loves walks, hikes, jumping into a lake or just hanging with his people. He loves discovering large properties, scoping out every inch. We call it perimeter checks, as he clearly believes that is his main job, to protect the people he loves. Chief loves all his toys (babies) that he carries from one room to the next, and will quickly grab one when someone arrives home to show you what he's got.
Looking for: Chief would do great as an only dog or with another dog that isn't aggressive. Kids, yes. Chief is pretty mellow as he moves into adulthood. Chief does very well during the work day when his people are away. Someone should adopt Chief that wants the most loving, loyal companion ever. Someone that has a large yard for him to explore, time to work with him on walks and re-socializing him into his new environment. Chief wants a job to do, and to please his people.
Adoption Fee: $ 250
