Loving and loyal!

Hi, pals! My name is Carter, and I’m a 5.5 year old neutered Boxer mix, weighing in at 67 pounds.  I’ve come all the way from the Irvine Animal Care Center, and I can’t wait to find my furever home!

I’m just the sweetest boy, who loves cuddling and belly rubs.  I like to follow my humans wherever they go, and I also enjoy sniffing and zooming around in the backyard.  I’m learning to play with toys, and I have a tendency to need reassurance that I’m playing with them the right way.  Overall, though, I’m just one big, loving goofball!

Training has been a breeze since I’m a quick learner.  I’ve mastered potty-training, and I like walking on a leash when no other doggies are around.  I’m also a big fan of my crate and do quite well in there.  One thing that I am working on, though, is my reactivity to other animals.  I’m very reactive towards dogs and will try to chase the smaller types.  However, the good news is, I’m easy to control on a double leash and can be distracted quickly with positive reinforcement.  I don’t have any separation anxiety, but I can get worked up by the sound of keys or collars jingling.

Other than that, I do have some health issues to mention.  I have osteoarthritis and bilateral hip dysplasia and am on a limited exercise regimen to prevent undue stress on my hips.  I’m currently taking Dasuquin joint supplement chews for pain management (~$33.00 for 2.5 months’ supply; price may vary based on where purchased or market value), and I’m on Prozac for anxiety, which must be supervised and managed by a vet for any changes (~$10.00 for a months’ supply; price may vary based on where purchased or market value).

My ideal home would be a mellow one without small children or other furry siblings.  I’m okay alone during the day, but I’d prefer having regular adult company.  Besides that, all I need is plenty of love, and I promise to give you more back in return!

My adoption fee is $275 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip.  If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/.
