Help this sweet Bird find her flock!
Hi there! I’m Bird, a 5-year-old, 71-pound German Shepherd mix with a soaring spirit! I’m the kind of pup who’s always ready for action—whether it’s fetching, tugging, or diving right into the pool. I’ve got no fear when it comes to play, and I’ll go the distance to chase after my favorite toy or be close to my humans. You could say I’m always ready to fly right into a good time!
I’m potty and crate trained, and in fact- I love my crate. No separation anxiety when left alone. I walk pretty well on a leash, but here’s the thing—I’ve got some quirks. Certain sounds, like a text tone can ruffle my feathers. A quick game of tug with my human gets me back on track. I’m not a fan of being pet during those moments—I’d rather focus on fun! I am prone to “flying over fences” and cannot be left outside unattended and need to be on a leash all the time, in side and outside of the home and in the yard for a minimum of 2-3 weeks for safety. I can get a little anxious and try to hop fences if I’m scared or if I just want to be close to my people. But with time and trust, I’ll learn to keep my paws on the ground.
When it comes to friends, I’m a bit selective—I’m socially awkward with other dogs and cats should not be part of my flock. Goats on the other hand? I’m cool with them! I’ve done great with my foster family’s kids (10 and 14), but I haven’t been around younger ones yet. I’d best with older kids who understand my needs but should steer clear of toddlers as I can jump and be mouthy at times of excitement.
I’ve had a bit of a rocky road, being relinquished to TAP twice, and my last family didn’t give me the outlet I needed. I am working dog, through and through and a job always makes me the happiest. When I get my daily dose of play and mental challenges, I’m much calmer and happier. I need a home where I can stretch my wings and get the exercise and training I crave—maybe even some sport dog activities such as dock diving and swimming! Sports also greatly improve a dog’s confidence, as well as the relationship with the handler and I would love to have a human allow me to participate in these types of activities.
Why take a chance on me? I’ve got a heart of gold and a playful soul that just needs someone to help me take flight in the right direction. If you’re active, patient, and ready to invest in me, I’ll be the most loyal and loving companion you could ever dream of. So, what do you say? Ready to give Bird a nest to call home?
My adoption fee is $250 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/
