Description

Sweetest big boi!

Hey there! I’m a three-year-old, 80-pound Shepherd mix, and I’ve had quite the journey.  I was transferred to TAP from Pasadena due to the fires and have been in foster homes ever since. It’s been a lot of change, but I’m doing my best to adjust and find my place in the world!

I’m neutered, potty trained, and am getting the hang of being inside a crate.  As far as walking goes, I’m working on walking with a gentle leader to control my reactivity around other dogs.  I’ve been told I’m a quick learner, especially when treats are involved (I mean, who isn’t?). I already know a few tricks and I’m really good at the “wait” command, like waiting for my food or patiently standing at the door before we head outside.

I’m a sweet boy but need time to warm up around those who are new to me.  I like to nap, go on walks, and play with my chew toys. I’m very into sniffing around and exploring, especially outdoors. Before you’ve earned my trust, I tend to act nervous and avoidant – I’ve barked a few times, but mostly I’ll just retreat if I’m feeling hesitant. Once I get to know you, though, I love belly rubs and being close by. I’ve been caught counter surfing once or twice… I’m just a curious dude who likes to see what’s going on!

As for other dogs, it’s a little complicated. I used to live with a Corgi and we apparently got along fine, but on walks I can be reactive when I see other pups. It’s not super clear if I want to play or if I’m just unsure, so slow, supervised introductions would be best if I were to have a doggy sibling. I haven’t been around kids much, but given my tendency to get nervous, kiddos would probably be a “no” for me.

I don’t need tons of exercise – just about 10-15 minutes of active play and I’m good for the day. I’d love a home with a yard where I can go out and explore at my own pace. Doggie siblings would be fine – as long as they are calm and mellow – but I’d also do A-OK as the only pet in the home.  I’d also thrive with someone who’s home most of the time – one who could provide structure and additional training to help me build confidence to overcome my nervousness and moderate separation anxiety.

I know I’ve been through a lot, but I’ve also learned a lot – and with the right person or family, I could be a truly awesome companion. Got room in your heart (and your yard) for a sweet, curious, belly-rub-lovin’ boy like me? My adoption fee is $350 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/.
