Description

Easy, chill and loving!

Hi, friends! My name is Atreyu, and I’m a 1.5 year-old, 34-pound, neutered Bulldog Mix.  I’ve come all the way from a shelter in Riverside, where my owner tried to relinquish me.  The shelter was at capacity at the time, but thankfully, TAP was there to scoop me up and give me a second chance at life!

I’m told that I’m a super sweet boy who loves my people.  My tail is always wagging, and I’m happy to see my person. I love cuddling in bed and playing tug-o-war.  I tend to wear myself out quickly during playtime, and when that happens, I like to retreat to my gated area and get a few hours of sleep. I’m a guy who needs routine and structure, and I do best in a calm and non-chaotic environment. I am currently on Prozac to help with my obsessive compulsive tendencies and high anxiety. I have worked with a trainer and will need to continue to work with a trainer to learn new relaxation techniques and continue my very specific training to be the best boy I can be.

As far as training goes, I am completely potty trained, and I’ve almost mastered leash training, as I do well on short walks and don’t pull. I do best inside a gated area in the home to have my own space, but please don’t put me in a crate because those scare me.

I don’t show any signs of separation anxiety when left behind, but I do tend to get overwhelmed easily in certain environments. To help me manage my anxiety and fixation on objects as I continue my training, I’ve been taking Prozac (~$5 for a month’s supply. Price depends on where purchased and market value) and am potentially adding new medications now that I am working with a Behavioral DVM to find the best combination of training and medications to try and help my anxiety. I must have structure and consistency in my environment to help support me, and a patient owner. Access to a yard is a must for me to allow my outside time in a secure area .

I must be in a mellow home with someone who understands the Bulldog breed and all of its quirks, and is a strong, confident leader who can guide me when I get overstimulated. I will get overstimulated when new people come over, and there is a lot of background or new noise in my environment and stimuli. I don’t need a lot of exercise, so a small house and yard would be just fine. I prefer to be left home in my gated area and out about with you snuggling on the couch for a nap.  However, I need to gain more confidence and have more exposure to new situations, with proper guidance and an experienced handler.

I need a home where I am the only dog since I don’t like to share my toys, and not really a fan of other dogs. Absolutely no kitties, though, since I have a strong prey drive. I need an adult-only home or one with pet savvy teenagers who can read my cues. Even though I’m small, I’m strong and mighty!

Do we sound like a good match? My adoption fee is $350 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip.  If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/.
