TAP Trip to Los Adoptables in Ensenada
On June 14, 2023, The Animal Pad executed our largest rescue to date. The shelter formerly known as Ellos Son La Razon (ESLR) in Ensenada, Mexico was seized by the Mexican Government, and TAP was asked to take over the shelter. Over the next several months, we cared for and exited over 400 dogs who had been living in horrific conditions at ESLR. We placed many of them in immediate foster homes, and we’ve continued to move these pups to fosters over the last 1.5 years. The dogs who have not yet gone to foster homes have been cared for at the Los Adoptables shelter in Ensenada. As of January 25, we still have 66 ESLR dogs living at Los Adoptables who are in need of foster homes.
The main goal of this trip is to find our remaining ESLR pups their valentines, aka foster homes! We’ll be taking each one out for a long walk, so hopefully they’re somewhat calm for their photo shoot, and then taking lots of photos and videos to help advertise these deserving pups! If you’re interested in fostering one of these sweet babies, this would be a perfect opportunity for you to meet the dogs in person! Can’t foster but still want to help? Come on the trip! We’ll have a variety of Valentine’s gifts attendees can sponsor for TAP’s pups living at Los Adoptables!

Itinerary
7:45am – Meet on the US side of the border in the Jack In The Box parking lot (across from the border crossing): 721 E San Ysidro Blvd, San Diego, CA 92173. From there, we will walk together across the border. If you are not at Jack in the Box by 8am, you will need to find your own transport to the shelter.
8:15am – Chartered bus picks us up on the TJ side of the border and takes us to the Los Adoptables shelter in Ensenada.
10:45am -12:45pm – Volunteer at the shelter! Get the dogs some exercise, and take lots of pics!
1:30-3:30pm – Buffet lunch at Planta Baja. Your donation covers 1 margarita, but additional drinks are on you.
5pm(ish) – Arrive at the pedestrian crossing (Ped East) to walk across the border. It is unknown how long the border wait will be. Last time, it was just over an hour for those without Global Entry.
Please make note of the following:
**You MUST purchase a ticket and sign a waiver/release to attend the trip. The waiver will be sent to you via Docusign before the trip.
**Please be ready to get a little dirty, and please be flexible with the schedule. This is Mexico, and we’ll have 55+ people in our group, so time frames are subject to change.
**Everyone is responsible for their own transportation to and from the border. There are many paid parking lots for those who plan to drive to the border, and the trolley runs to and from the border. Uber/Lyft are also good options, especially if you plan to have a couple drinks at lunch.
**We ask that no one leaves the shelter while we’re there, so please bring snacks and water with you.
**You MUST have a valid passport to attend – Please bring it with you! Global Entry cards are not a substitute for your passport, so please make sure to bring your passport and any applicable cards (like Global Entry).
**You may want to bring a change of clothes for lunch (Valentine’s attire suggested), but this isn’t mandatory.
**This event is for age 18+ humans only.
