ANCHOVY, now THAD!

This is a happy tail of unbelievable obstacles. When we met Anchovy down at the Ensenada shelter, the majority of us were overcome with emotion. The story behind this one eyed sweet soul was that some horrific humans out there removed the dog’s eyeball for fun. Now, we are animal lovers but we are also people with hearts and souls and the idea of another person being capable of such a horrific act of animal abuse tore us to shreds. This is the type of situation that brings us to our knees but also catapults us deeper into our mission to help more of these sweet dogs.

Achovy was naturally terrified of human contact but after a few minutes of caring and kind hearted touch, he warmed up. He was brought back to the kennels at Jay Bee’s and after a few days was ultimately a changed dog. He grew into his part yorkie breed and became the yappy, hold me forever sweetheart we all know and love. He would lean on your leg until you stared at him and knew you would do whatever he wanted. He truly won over the hearts of each volunteer who met him.

He became quick friends with his pizza themed kennel partners just like this cute guy, Cheese! Even after all he’d been through, he was friendly with all people, other dogs and overall had a love for the good life at Jay Bee’s.

He was eventually adopted by an amazing woman that changed his name to Thad. Thad lives the dream now of lap dog lifestyle and a never-ending super smol and fashionable dog wardrobe. In case you missed it, he was dressed up in a sombrero and Mexican poncho for Halloween and it’s all of our favorite video ever in existence, be sure to check it out on our gram!

A few words from our tiny and oh so loveable, Thad:

There once was a time when I was small and scared and the world didn’t seem so nice. I was tortured and really didn’t think I would ever have myself any fun as a doggo in this life. It wasn’t until this nice lady with long blond hair picked me up in the shelter and I could tell she was crying looking at me, that I was like huh? Is this a nice hooman here? Kinda feels like it.

Who would’ve thought little old, one-eyed me was going to be plucked from the bunch and get so lucky! I got chosen and driven across the border one day and placed in this weird tall stuff that I think was called grrrass? For some reason, I really liked it and then I started seeing these faces of more nice hoomans that took care of me for a while and I realized they were good people, so I started to let myself open up. I went into a foster home and much to my total disbelief some lady picked me up and said she wanted to hold onto me forever and ever – and I GOT ADOPTED!!!

Now, I spend my days with rad goggles at the San Diego beaches, playing with my cuddly blue llama, and snuggled up with my one eyed monster toy next to my hooman. Furever, one of the lucky ones – forget that stinky past, I’m killin’ it out here! How PAWsome is that 🙂
