Description

Blaze is a 37-pound heeler mix with a powerful story of survival. He came from a background that left him fearful and unsure how to safely navigate the world. As a result, Blaze developed reactivity, aggression, and resource guarding—behaviors rooted in self-protection, not malice.

With consistent training, structure, and patience, Blaze is learning new coping skills and beginning to trust. He is intelligent, driven, and eager to engage—traits common in heeler mixes. However, Blaze can be pushy and demanding, especially when he is overstimulated or seeking reassurance. Because of this, Blaze cannot be indulged or managed through appeasement. He needs clear, calm boundaries to help him feel safe and to prevent him from putting himself into situations he cannot emotionally handle. Structure, predictable routines, and consistent expectations are critical to ensuring the safety and well-being of both Blaze and the people around him.

Blaze is not a dog for first-time owners—but for the right person, he can be deeply rewarding. Once trust is built, he forms strong bonds and shows loyalty, focus, and a growing desire to choose calmer responses. Blaze will thrive in an adult-only home with adopters who are committed to continuing his training. Ongoing support from a professional trainer or behaviorist is necessary.

Helping Blaze learn emotional regulation at his pace is a meaningful commitment, and one that can change his life. If you believe in second chances and have the patience and commitment to structure to help a dog continue healing, Blaze may be the companion you’ve been waiting for.
