Adoptable: Winter: Courtesy Post

Age: 2.5 years old

Gender: Female

Breed: Lab mix

Weight: 60 lbs

Personality: High energy, but very good with things around her. Loves to play and be super sweet! Lover of all dogs, cats and people, inc kids. Needs mental stimulation to keep her from digging and gopher hunting(unless you'd like her to help in the yard!)

Education: Good with bathroom, crate and leash training.

Favorite Activities: Gopher hunting! Playing, walking, cuddling, food games, loud toys

Looking for: She would do well in any environment where someone can stimulate her play needs most importantly. she would do best in any big family, kids, other playful dogs, cats or an individual's undivided attention with active habits

Winter’s original family surrendered her when they fell onto unfortunate times and lost their home.  She was just a puppy used to a large group of children who would play sports and ride their bikes all around with Winter in tow.  Unfortunately, before she reached adulthood she was abruptly abandoned by herself for weeks without any attention, inevitably left to be watched over by multiple caring neighbors. Winter would look so sad and lonely, often quietly laying up against the fence, hoping someone would notice her. she was always excited to see faces and eager for TLC from anyone and anything she could get it from.  Her calm and loving nature won the hearts of the whole community. Eventually she moved in with a dog lover and friendly pack, who reluctantly allowed Winter to squeeze in.

She really showed her appreciation and love for being rescued, that sad and gentle puppy was so excited and rambunctious again! She’s learned she can get attention from anyone, including the cats.  Now that she’s been raised with in a smaller space, around a smaller breed and around cats/kittens, she’s learned how to be graceful and docile when necessary.  Toys are absolutely her unconditional best friends, especially when everyone else gets a little exhausted or irritated by her.  Her energy level and size could be a little intimidating to other pets or small children at first, but she does adjust and isn’t at all aggressive, even if she’s tested.

She is both crate trained and housebroken: she spends 50% of her time in an open outdoor setting with a kennel to sleep in, and the other 50% indoors for cuddles or to be out of the weather. But she prefers the warm indoors and a cozy bed if she had the choice!  Winter’s downfalls would be loneliness and boredom. She requires stimulation and an active outlet to remain happy.  She’s accustomed to being around a few pets and supervision at all times. It’s noticed when she is forced to be isolated and bored for more than a few nights back to back, she shows an attitude and can be destructive to chewable things, like a soft bed.  Outdoors and outings: she high energy. loves exploring, fetch, hiking and can happily pull your weight if on a bike or skating!

I

suggest a home with a fully enclosed yard because of her peak interest in exploring: she’s only shown prey instincts when it comes to rodents. Sometimes digging up and chasing gophers. Winter has never retaliated aggression with aggression, she’s more submissive, but she has learned to patrol the yard and alert of intruders or wildlife. (sometimes she likes the person too much to consider them an intruder. she also won’t do this indoors.) She has no special needs. Eats one type of dry dog food and treats. Personal care routine is weekly brushing to prevent shedding.
